Operation Heart has a strong history of serving the community by raising awareness on the importance of preventing cardiovascular disease and educating patients on how to maintain a more heart-healthy lifestyle. By working in collaboration with pharmacists, pharmacy students, and volunteers, we hope to empower the community to become better advocates for their own health. This past spring, we participated in various events including the Little Earth Health Fair, Whittier Clinic, Richfield Public School Community Wellness Expo, JDRF One Walk, and American Heart Association’s Go Red Expo. We also held several of our own health fairs at senior centers, churches, and schools throughout the community. At these events, we were able to provide blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, as well as provide answers to any medication questions at our consultation table. We also collaborated with other organizations including the Multicultural Pharmacy Student Organization and Project Chance. Together, we ran health fairs at the Korean Service Center, YMCA Heritage Park, and the Harbor Light Center. In the future, we plan to have more collaborations with other organizations, including the National Kidney Foundation. Our goal is to continue looking for opportunities to expand our patient care project and reach out to the bigger community.
