Project Breathe is a patient care group that focuses on respiratory diseases and the education surrounding them. More than 32 million Americans live with a chronic lung disease in the United States such as asthma and COPD, and these conditions often involve the use of complicated medication devices. There are many types of inhalers that are all used in different ways. Many individuals using these devices are not using them properly to achieve their maximum benefit. Project Breathe’s goal is to improve the education surrounding these diseases and the devices used to manage them through our presence at health fairs throughout the community. We offer educational material including an informational board, models of respiratory organs, example inhalers, and a spirometer to measure peak flow! Due to the connections in respiratory illness associated with smoking, Project Breathe is also planning on collaborations with MPSA’s Smoking Cessation this semester to improve the public’s knowledge surrounding respiratory health.
